800 Years of Town History and Culture
The Stadtmuseum is located in the picturesque old town near the town church and castle. Following renovation work in 2011/12, it now consists of a unique ensemble of three buildings. The striking, towering new building called Janus, with its perforated bronze façade, serves as an entrance foyer and connects the Breny House, built in 1492, with the mighty medieval tower.
The museum, with its collection of historical objects, sees itself as the cultural memory of the town and its population. It presents 800 years of the town and cultural history of Rapperswil-Jona in eighteen atmospheric rooms. Periodic temporary exhibitions and events make the museum an attraction for the regional population, schools, families, and tourists.
